Terms of service — Always Today
Last updated: 18 October 2026
About these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and Empatiq Limited, 66 Paul Street, London EC2A 4NA, United Kingdom, registered in England and Wales, company number 13746700 (“we”), which makes Always Today. They apply when you use the Always Today apps, create an account or buy a plan. Please read them with the privacy policy and the refund policy on the help page. Questions: apps@guzh.uk.
Always Today is for personal use. Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have by law as a consumer.
What Always Today is
Always Today is a to-do list app for Android phones and tablets, Googlebooks, Windows, Mac and the Linux terminal, with an iPhone and iPad version planned. The apps are free to download and to use on one device.
The sync service is an optional online service that copies your lists between the devices you sign in on. Each device keeps its own full copy of your lists and works offline; our server passes changes between them. Sync comes with a paid plan, and with the free trial.
Your account
- You need an account only to sync. You sign in with your email address and a link we send to it; there is no password.
- Keep your email account safe: anyone who can read your email can sign in. You can see your signed-in devices, and sign them out, in the app.
- You must be at least 13 to create an account.
- If you turn on end-to-end encryption, only your passphrase or your recovery key can unlock your synced lists. We can’t recover them if you lose both.
Plans and payment
Always Today is free on one device. Sync is £24 a year or £3 a month, or £59 once for Lifetime. Prices include VAT and any sales tax.
- Who sells the plan. On the web (Windows, Mac and Linux), plans are sold by Stripe through its Managed Payments service, which is the seller (the merchant of record) and is shown at checkout, on receipts and on your statement as Onelink; Stripe’s and Onelink’s terms apply to the payment. On Android, plans are sold by Google through Google Play, under Google Play’s terms. On iPhone and iPad, when that app arrives, they will be sold by Apple through the App Store. We provide the sync service itself.
- Renewals. Monthly and yearly plans renew automatically at the end of each period, and are charged to your payment method until you cancel. You’ll get a reminder before a yearly plan renews.
- Lifetime is one payment for sync for as long as Always Today’s sync service runs, for one person’s account.
- One plan, every device. A plan belongs to your Always Today account, so it covers every device you sign in on, wherever you bought it.
- Price changes. We may change prices for new purchases at any time. If we raise the price of a plan you already have, we’ll tell you at least 30 days before the new price applies to you, and you can cancel before then.
- Currency. Outside the UK the checkout may show the price converted into your own currency, so the amount can differ a little from the pound price.
- Failed payments. If a renewal payment fails, sync keeps working for a few days while the payment is tried again. If it still fails, sync pauses until a plan is active again; nothing on your devices is lost.
The free trial
Each new account gets 14 days of sync free, starting when it is created. No card or payment details are asked for, so nothing is charged when the trial ends: sync simply pauses until you choose a plan. There is one trial per email address. Deleting an account and signing up again with the same address carries on the first trial to its original end date, and never starts a new one. We may change or end the trial offer for new accounts at any time, without affecting a trial that has already started.
Cancelling and refunds
- You can cancel a monthly or yearly plan at any time: for web purchases at link.com (Onelink), for Android purchases in Google Play’s subscriptions. Sync keeps working until the end of the period you’ve paid for, and the plan doesn’t renew.
- We refund any purchase within 14 days, no questions asked. The refund policy on the help page explains how.
- As a consumer in the UK you normally have 14 days to cancel a contract for a digital service. Because sync starts as soon as you buy, you ask for it to start at once; our 14-day refund promise gives you at least what that right would.
Your lists are yours
Everything you write in Always Today belongs to you. You give us only the permission we need to store your synced changes and pass them to your devices, and that permission ends when you delete your account. We don’t read, sell or use your lists for anything else. You can export everything as a file at any time, on any plan.
Fair use
The sync service is made for one person’s to-do lists, and a plan includes as much ordinary personal use as you like. Please don’t:
- use it to store or share things that aren’t to-do lists, such as files, media or large data sets (a single change over about 128 KB is refused);
- share one account between several people, or resell access to it;
- overload the service, for example with automated requests far beyond what the apps make, or try to get into other people’s accounts or around the limits of your plan;
- use it for anything illegal.
If an account harms the service or other people, we may limit or pause its sync. We’ll tell you why by email and, unless the harm is serious or urgent, give you a chance to put it right first.
Availability and changes
We work to keep the sync service running reliably, but it may sometimes be unavailable, for example for maintenance or because of a fault at our hosting provider. Because every device keeps its own copy, your lists stay usable while sync is down, and changes are sent once it’s back. We may improve and change the apps and the service over time; if a change takes away something important you’ve paid for, you can ask for a refund for the time left on your plan. Exporting your lists now and then is a good idea, especially on a device that doesn’t sync.
Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time in the app (Settings, Delete my account) or by asking us at apps@guzh.uk. This removes your synced data from our server, as the privacy policy describes. Deleting your account doesn’t cancel a plan you pay for: cancel that too, or ask us and we’ll help.
We may close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms. Unless the law or the seriousness of the problem prevents it, we’ll warn you first, explain why, and give you time to export your lists. If we close an account without good reason, we’ll refund the unused part of any plan.
If we close the sync service
If we ever decide to stop running the sync service, we’ll tell account holders at least 6 months before it stops. The apps will keep working on each device without sync, and you can export everything. We’ll refund the unused part of any monthly or yearly plan paid for beyond the closing date.
Our responsibility to you
- We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. Loss is foreseeable if it was obvious it would happen, or if we both knew it might happen when you started using the service.
- Always Today is for personal use. We aren’t responsible for business losses, such as lost profit or lost business opportunities.
- We aren’t responsible for delays or failures caused by events outside our reasonable control, but we’ll tell you and do what we reasonably can to limit the effect.
- Apart from the above, and unless the law says otherwise, our total responsibility to you is limited to what you paid for your plan in the 12 months before the problem happened.
- Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn’t allow us to limit, including your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
Your legal rights
As a consumer you have legal rights that these terms don’t affect. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, digital content must be as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality, and a service must be provided with reasonable care and skill. If something isn’t right, you may be entitled to a repair, a replacement, a price reduction or a refund. For advice, contact Citizens Advice, or Advice Direct Scotland in Scotland. If you live in the European Union, you also keep the protections of your own country’s consumer law.
Where plans are sold
The apps work anywhere, but web purchases are only available where Stripe’s Managed Payments can sell. Today it can’t sell to customers in Ascension Island, China, Cuba, Iran, Kosovo, North Korea, Russia, Syria or Tristan da Cunha. Purchases in Google Play and the App Store follow Google’s and Apple’s own lists of countries. Don’t use Always Today where the law forbids it.
The law, and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you can bring a claim in your own country’s courts; otherwise the courts of England and Wales. If something goes wrong, please email us first: most problems are quickest to fix that way.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example when we add a feature or the law changes. We’ll update the date at the top and, if a change affects you significantly, email account holders at least 30 days before it takes effect. If you don’t agree with a change, you can cancel your plan and, for a change that takes away something you’ve paid for, ask for a refund for the time left.
